Kevin Bacon become a demon hunter in the new series ‘The Bondsman’, streaming now on Prime Video

Kevin Bacon is back, but this time he’s not dancing in rebellion (Footloose) or chasing invisible foes (Hollow Man). In The Bondsman, now available on Prime Video, he takes on the role of Hub Halloran, a failed musician turned demon hunter. Instead of tracking down run-of-the-mill fugitives, he’s after sinister demons that have escaped from Hell.

Hub Halloran isn’t exactly living the dream. Once a failed musician, he’s turned to the gritty world of bail bonds to make ends meet. But life takes a turn for the macabre when he’s brutally murdered and then resurrected by the Devil himself. Hub’s new gig involves rounding up demons who’ve decided to take an unauthorized vacation from the underworld. Armed with a sardonic wit and a gaping neck wound that just won’t quit, Hub navigates his undead existence with a blend of dark humor and reluctant heroism

The Bondsman isn’t your typical horror series. The show is a mix of spooky moments and laugh-out-loud comedy. Hub isn’t exactly thrilled about his new role, especially when he has to take orders from Midge (Jolene Purdy), Hell’s overly cheerful HR rep. To make things even messier, he keeps running into his ex-wife, Maryanne (Jennifer Nettles), adding personal drama to his already strange afterlife. Created by Grainger David, the show masterfully balances the grotesque with the comedic, ensuring that viewers are as likely to chuckle as they are to gasp.

Cast of ‘The Bondsman’

Kevin Bacon takes on the lead role of Hub Halloran,  down-on-his-luck bail bondsman who gets a second chance at life after getting murdered. He’s best known for his breakout performance as Ren McCormack in Footloose (1984), where he danced his way into pop culture history. Horror fans may recognize him from Friday the 13th (1980), while thriller lovers remember him as the invisible villain in Hollow Man (2000). He’s also wowed audiences in Mystic River (2003), Tremors (1990), and the crime drama series City on a Hill (2019-2022).

Jennifer Nettles plays Maryanne, Hub’s ex-wife, who brings a mix of tension and unexpected warmth to the story. Nettles is a Grammy-winning country singer, best known as the lead vocalist of Sugarland. She’s also made a name for herself on Broadway and in TV roles, including Harriet Tubman: Visions of Freedom and The Righteous Gemstones. Her musical talent shines in The Bondsman, as she and Bacon co-wrote several original songs for the series, seamlessly blending music into the show’s eerie yet comedic tone.
